Alongside the technology boom came an influx of restaurants, arts, and culture and the neighborhood is brimming with sights, smells and sounds. Wander the area to discover cuisine from around the world, traditional pubs or wine bars. Culture, nature, and seasonal activities can also be found nearby, and of course, across the river is Boston.
Contemporary art can be enjoyed at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center, or on a walking tour through campus. There are several public art displays to enjoy, as well as architecture by Frank Gehry, Eero Saarinen and Fumihiko Maki. The nearby Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center has rotating exhibits from around the world, cultural events and a free summer concert series.
Many parks and green spaces are scattered throughout the neighborhood, and the Square offers outdoor concerts in summer and ice skating in winter. The Kendall Hotel is a short walk to Memorial Drive along the Charles River. If you’re visiting over July 4th, an evening stroll that direction will be rewarded with an impressive fireworks display from a river barge. Across the bridge, the Esplanade park attracts guests and residents.
